The second phase of CPEC focuses on power generation in Pakistan. Under this, the inauguration of the first Thar coal power project was expected on 10th April 2019. This Thar Coal power plant will produce some 660 MW energy. It is one of the most significant projects under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Thar will soon have its own coal power generation plant.
The Thar coal power project consists of 2 distinct power generation units. Each unit is capable of producing some 330 MW of energy. This project is basically a product of a partnership between the Government of Sindh and a Chinese company. It is a public-private partnership project and promises effective results. Therefore, the Government of Sindh gave a sovereign guarantee of seven hundred million dollars for this. It will satisfy the energy needs of Sindh Province and is one of the major perks of CPEC.
