The Multi-Billion Dollar CPEC Project ML-1 Railways Is Back On the Track

One of the most-delayed largest projects of CPEC Is Main Line-1 (ML-1 railways). The project was facing financial hurdles in its way. But now, the Federal Government has finally decided to get a loan of 9 billion dollars on its books. Due to this, the CPEC’s biggest project will be completed soon.

The Prime Minister Imran Khan, Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Jawed Bajwa, and President of China Xi Jinping discussed the project details. Later, in Islamabad, on 10 and 11 October, the meeting of Joint Working Group (JWP) on transport infrastructure discussed the detailed version of this project.

The ones who co-chaired this meeting were, Pakistan’s Communication Secretary Jawwad Rafique and Chinese Ministry of Transport Chief Planner Wang Zhiping. The upcoming Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) of the CPEC Authority will evaluate such decisions of ML-1 railways. Moreover, the JWP meeting was held ahead for the JCC meeting.

The govt. sources said that the Pakistani authorities have also their consent on the project’s approval as one umbrella scheme rather than giving phase-wise approval. Now, the Railways Ministry will need to submit the PC-1 Umbrella doc to the Ministry of Planning till 31 Oct. It will include the project estimated cost of about $9 billion.
